Simulation medical learning/training

All,

Wanted to make you aware of the great work Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science is doing around improving diagnostic skills in their simulation labs. The following link is to a poster and abstract published showing impressive results from the work they are doing and I would encourage folks to contact James Carlson at the organization as he has recently done even more in this area for his recently defended dissertation.

I hope these articles are interesting and helpful.

Dear Jenny,

Excellent.

Pleased that this area is developing so well.

It seems that well designed learning modules similar to what pilots are put through in their simulator training would be healthy for medical students in all areas but particularly for diagnosis.

I have wondered if there are any developers in this area using animation with their programming. At first glance this might be cheaper, easier to produce, change, alter, etc. than more conventional mannequin/actor/patient simulations.

The advances in animation are utterly amazing as indicated in this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=uFxnBrO9n7o

Is the whole article you quote available on line anywhere for download?

I suppose the whole "virtual patient" movement is about proper diagnosing.
(Medbiquitous developed a standard representation for them:

Dear all,

Taking a leaf again from the airline industry simulation is being used
in many different ways in medicine I am told.

Does anyone have any idea if they are effective and has anything been
done with the diagnosis field?

Also, has anyone done anything with cartoon type movies or interactive
videos?

It would seem that with the cost of regular movies that cartoons could
be cheaper. However, would they work as well?

Would welcome hearing any information.
