Founder and President, Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine
The Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine is committed to encouraging research, promoting education, and building awareness among all the stakeholder groups that can have impact. The prevalence of diagnostic error, defined as wrong, missed or delayed medical diagnosis, occurs in 10-15% of cases, leading to an estimated 40,000 - 80,000 deaths annually in the Unites States. Diagnostic error is responsible for billions of healthcare dollars for inappropriate care, and is the leading cause of medical malpractice claims. Our ultimate goal is to reduce misdiagnosis-related harm.
