Great article, Hardeep. Let's all hope it pushes the needle faster and further.

"Hospitals systems can help by providing high-tech decision support tools…." and these tools also now qualify for stage 2 of Meaningful Use. The latest Tip sheet from CMS entitled "Clinical Decision Support: More than Just Alerts" actually lists "types of CDS interventions consistent with HHS' broad definition" and includes " Suggestions for possible diagnoses based on patient specific information retrieved from a patient's EMR"

You can access the tip sheet from this link http://www.cms.gov/Regulations-and-Guidance/Legislation/EHRIncentivePrograms/Downloads/ClinicalDecisionSupport_Tipsheet-.pdf

As far as I am aware, this is the first time that the MU criteria have specifically mentioned diagnosis decision support. Since this kind of decision support is relatively quick and easy to implement, it should be an attractive option to help hospital systems achieve MU2.

Regards
Jason

Subject: [IMPROVEDX] Hardeep Singh Published OpEd article in Wall Street Journal Friday 8/8/14

The Wall Street Journal published an opinion piece Friday titled The Battle Against Misdiagnosis. The article is a call to action by Hardeep Singh, a prolific researcher and clinician, winner of the prestigious Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, who has been instrumental in making the DEM Conferences a reality. This OpEd may mark a turning point in putting diagnostic error on the policy map and in the public eye:
