This is a very interesting study on the diagnosis of lung cancer in the UK as it covers over 20,000 cases over a 13 year period. This is a link to the BBC new article http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-29596645 and this one gets you the study http://thorax.bmj.com/content/early/2014/09/12/thoraxjnl-2014-205692

It was interesting that it seemed to show that the main problem was not the patients presenting late but the GP not picking it up as on average those who died early had seen their GP 5x.

The author suggests the use of software prompts "to help GPs to identify and investigate, in a timely manner, those at risk"
