AHRQ Grants for Diagnostic Error // other support opportunities

I concur with Julianne's observation.

I think it is great that AHRQ is providing this funding. The DXError
community will certainly benefit from their support-as well patients and
clinicians!

However, academia and large NFP groups are not the only places to sow
research seeds.

Independent researchers, private practices, consultants, free-thinkers who
aren't associated/employed with a large organization that are recognized as
viable recipients of government grants, or researchers who affiliated are
but cannot get their organizations to support their innovations and research
interests could benefit from funds to do research, produce materials,
design and implement rapid cycle improvements, support and "feed"
collaboratives in this field (and also in the broader space of patient
safety in general).

Are there private foundations, scholarships, fellows programs, corporate
entities, grant money opportunities for that community to tap into?

I would suspect there are - as I think some of patient advocacy group
activities (ie PULSE New York) have benefited from assistance from the
private foundation community to put on programs and such--but perhaps not to
do research.

If this work takes a village -- I would say the broader village could use
some cash to do the work. ;-)

After reviewing the grant criteria, primary care practice groups that are
not attached to a higher ed institution are not eligible. Would love to
see grant opportunities available to smaller settings to stimulate more
diversified opportunities for all levels of providers interested in
diagnostic error.

This is a big day for our diagnostic safety community: AHRQ has just issued
the first-ever grant announcement that specifically targets " Diagnostic
Safety in Ambulatory Care". Both R01 (large grants) and R18 (small grants)
will be funded under this initiative, which will be open annually until
2018. With so many proposed, but untested interventions that have been
raised, there's many opportunities. Go get 'em !
