Don't know. Last year I attended a series of lectures at Johns Hopkins on these topics. The impression I was left with is that most fledgling ACOs seem to be struggling for their basic survival, since their core structure is fundamentally flawed (the ACO has "accountability" but exerts no control over patient provider choice or other consequential behaviors), and as such it seems to me that ACOs are probably not going to survive in their current form. For most institutions, if they even have an ACO it makes up only a small fraction of their portfolio. I did not get the impression that they were playing any significant role in either the overall patient safety movement or in diagnostic error initiatives.
So it would be my impression that the whole ACO idea has, thus far, been a flop. While the "value-based" payment model is clearly going to be a big part of the future of healthcare, with hopefully many benefits derived in patient safety, efficiency, reducing waste and reducing diagnostic error, the ACO concept doesn't seem to me to be working out.
Does anyone else have more recent or comprehensive knowledge? Any examples of ACO success?

Subject: [IMPROVEDX] PSOs
Does anyone know anything about where the ACA PSOs are today in patient safety?
Are they working? Have they had any successes? Have they had any failures?
What is their future?
What role will or do they play in the overall patient safety movement?
Are they involved in anyway in the diagnostic error initiatives?
