The IOM report recommends a team-based approach for diagnosis but there
isn't much literature yet demonstrating that many providers (and patients)
working together collaboratively yields a better diagnostic process.

Together with David Bates' team at Harvard Medical School, we will be soon
publishing results from the Human Diagnosis Project dataset showing that
collective intelligence outperforms individual physicians by a wide margin.
Our results mirror those of the attached paper but is on a much broader set
of clinical cases (not only mammograms and dermatology) and a more diverse
set of clinicians.

We are now planning on a demonstration project with Urmimala Sarkar and
colleagues at UCSF to study whether a clinician-facing tool for accessing
the collective intelligence of multiple physicians on a diagnostic case
meaningfully improves outcomes in an ambulatory setting.

Thrilled to see others' pioneering work in this area.
