Measures and measurement are an important issue for us all. Even the IOM's new definition of dx error (…providing an accurate and timely explanation of the patient's health problem….) opens up the questions of what we mean by 'accurate' and 'timely'. The NQF is launching a new project to begin considering measures relating to diagnosis, and here is a just-released paper from Hardeep Singh, Tim Hofer, and myself on the topic. Comments welcome and feel free to send around the link - the paper is 'open access'.
