The inaugural Diagnostic Error in Medicine conference in Australia\Asia just concluded in Melbourne, AU. Chaired by Dr Carmel Crock, the two-day meeting attracted over 200 physicians, nurses, patients, patient safety officers and other stakeholders from 7 countries. Keynote addresses were presented on diagnostic error (myself), lab-related error (Paul Epner), the role of nurses in diagnosis (Julie Considine), human factors (Anne Miller), teaching clinical reasoning (Bob Trowbridge), and health IT (Enrico Coiera). The meeting was very well received, and provided a solid foundation for future work on diagnostic error in this part of the world. Our community is growing !
