Are there trainees in your program interested in diagnostic quality and safety?
The Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine (SIDM) is interested in identifying candidates for our one-year funded Fellowship in Diagnostic Excellence. Offered by SIDM and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the Fellowship is a one-year program that provides mentoring for projects related to diagnostic excellence as well as networking opportunities and engagement within the SIDM community. The Fellowship includes a financial stipend for the trainee and their local institutional mentor. Our Fellowship is intended to supplement a primary Fellowship in a certificate or degree-granting program.
We are currently accepting applications for the 2019-2020 academic year, beginning July 1, 2019. We also offer non-funded fellowships that provide a mentor and other opportunities. Applications must be received by March 15, 2019.
Would you be willing to share the information below to any eligible candidates? The email includes a link with more information about the program and the application for the funded fellowship.
Please send any questions to fellowship at improvediagnosis.org<mailto:fellowship at improvediagnosis.org>. Thanks in advance for your assistance in identifying candidates who can benefit from our program.

For Potential Applicants:
Are you interested in establishing yourself in the field of diagnostic quality and safety research?
The Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine<http://www.improvediagnosis.org/> (SIDM) has a Fellowship program<http://www.improvediagnosis.org/sidmfellowship> available to support the next generation of researchers in diagnostic quality and safety. We can help match you with experienced mentors in the SIDM community who are recognized leaders in the fields of diagnostic error education, research, or practice improvement. Funded by the Gordon Betty Moore Foundation, this Fellowship position provides a stipend for work done as part of an institutional degree program. Opportunities are provided for Fellows to present their work at SIDM’s Annual Meeting on Diagnostic Error in Medicine, and Fellows are encouraged to publish their work in Diagnosis<https://www.improvediagnosis.org/diagnosis-journal/> and other peer-reviewed journals.
Scholars will receive a mentor and the benefits described above as well as the following:
· Stipend towards tuition, project expenses, salary ($35,000)
· Travel expenses to DEM Conference are reimbursed up to $2,500
· Their local institutional mentor receives stipend of $5,000
To receive the foundation-funded Fellowship, candidates must intend to pursue additional education and training related to improving diagnostic quality and safety. Successful candidates will be in an advanced degree-bearing program (or applying for and eventually be accepted), have local mentors, and commit to proposed work related to diagnostic excellence.
The deadline to apply for a SIDM Fellowship for the 2019-2020 academic year is March 15, 2019.
