Hospital benefits other than improvement, a good diagnosis, and discharge.

It occurred to me that when we move towards getting accurate error data from hospitals, it might be also worth collecting the unexpected benefits of a hospital stay.
I have heard of one patient who serendipitously learnt how to deal with her serious laryngospasm episodes from a speech therapist using of a straw.
And another who had bronciectasis with persistent troublesome coughing in the evening for 5 or so years, but a course of antibiotics for pneumonia in hospital "cured" the coughing.
We tend to focus on the negatives but there are amazing often forgotten positives.
Would welcome to hear of other examples of these kind of successes
