The Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine (SIDM) is soliciting applications from educators and educational programs interested in developing new courses or programs designed to improve diagnosis.

Funded by the Josiah Macy, Jr Foundation, SIDM has worked with an interprofessional group of educators to identify 12 competencies<https://www.improvediagnosis.org/competency-summary-list/> we believe are most important in determining diagnostic quality and safety. We encourage educators and programs in every healthcare profession to begin considering how these new competencies could be incorporated in existing or new education and training venues, and incorporating the new competencies whenever possible.

We are now seeking to identify 5-10 educators, in any healthcare profession, interested to participate in a learning collaborative in 2019 to explore ways to present and assess the new competencies. Selected applicants will be expected to 1) incorporate the new competency in educational activities and assess the acceptance and impact of the new elements; 2) participate in monthly conference calls with the other participants and project leads; and 3) attend an in-person meeting in late fall to discuss what’s been learned and suggestions for further implementation. A small stipend will be available to support project-related expenses and travel.

Interested applicants should submit a 1 page application by April 5, 2019 to Diana.Rusz at improvediagnosis.org (single spaced, 10-point font) outlining the proposed project, how it would be presented in the current academic year, how it would be evaluated, and from what professions the trainees would be involved. One additional page should describe the project site, resources available, and the qualifications of the project lead. Projects involving trainees from more than 1 profession would be ideal although this is not required.

Applicants will be notified by May 1, 2019.

Questions should be directed to project leads Andrew Olson<http://apjolson@umn.edu> or Mark Graber.<http://mark.graber@improvediagnosis.org>
