This week, SIDM joins the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and the patient safety community to celebrate National Patient Safety Awareness Week<http://www.ihi.org/Engage/Initiatives/Patient-Safety-Awareness-Week/Pages/default.aspx>, an annual event the second week in March intended to raise awareness and action around healthcare safety. This year’s theme is improving safety in the ambulatory setting.

We invite you to take part in the week’s activities and encourage you to share actions that you’re taking to improve diagnostic accuracy and timeliness in the pursuit of safe healthcare. Here’s how you can get involved:

· Watch the Webcast: On Wednesday, March 13 from 2pm-3pm ET, IHI will host Advancing Patient Safety Beyond the Hospital<http://www.ihi.org/education/WebTraining/Webinars/advancing-patient-safety-beyond-hospital/Pages/default.aspx>, a complimentary webcast discussing the state of ambulatory patient safety in the US; the infrastructure needed to advance patient safety in these settings; and the importance of patient safety culture, teamwork, and patient and family engagement. Moderated by IHI’s Tejal Gandhi, speakers include AHRQ’s Jeff Brady and Stanford Health’s Lisa Schilling. · Join the Twitter Chat: On Thursday, March 14 from 12pm-1pm ET, SIDM’s Paul Epner will take part in a Twitter chat<http://www.ihi.org/Engage/Initiatives/Patient-Safety-Awareness-Week/Pages/Join-a-Twitter-Chat.aspx> with IHI to discuss tactics, tools, and methods for improving diagnosis. You can use the hashtag #PSAW19 to participate.

  * Tell us what’s happening in your OWN organizations around diagnostic safety. We’d love to hear.
