Dear SIDM colleagues:

Attached is a discount flier for my new book, Error and Uncertainty in Radiology, which I just received from the publisher this afternoon. It can be used for online purchases at the Oxford University Press website (it does not work on or other booksellers). See Dr. Graber's note, below.

Subject: New Book on Error & Uncertainty in Radiology

I'm very excited to announce a new book focused on an important aspect of diagnostic error. Error and Uncertainty in Diagnostic Radiology, by our SIDM colleague, Dr. Michael Bruno. And thanks to Dr Bruno for dedicating a portion of the sales to SIDM - much appreciated. We need more books like this ;<)

If we want to understand and address diagnostic error, studying the diagnostic process in radiology is a great place to start. Although he focuses specifically on radiology and the many recent advances in his own field, Michael's insights are widely applicable, and the book was specifically written with the SIDM membership in mind. One of the things I liked best is a new framework for understanding diagnostic error that Michael presents, exploring three cardinal dimensions of "how we work, how we think, and how we are made". Another is his ability to examine the process through both a Safety 1 and Safety 2 lens; there are many lessons from both. Dr. Bruno succeeds in clarifying and disentangling the complex variables that contribute to the overall problem of radiological error, its impact on patients and their care, and exploring a broad range of strategies designed to improve diagnostic reliability going forward. Besides its scholarly contributions, the book is an entertaining and enjoyable read, an unusual combination.

The book is expected to be available for delivery by the end of next week, and it is available for pre-order from the publisher, Oxford University Press, here:<>
