Io Dolka, a member of SIDM’s Patient Engagement Committee, forwarded a link to this article <https://news.liverpool.ac.uk/2019/07/08/study-finds-psychiatric-diagnosis-to-be-scientifically-meaningless/ <https://news.liverpool.ac.uk/2019/07/08/study-finds-psychiatric-diagnosis-to-be-scientifically-meaningless/>> which describes a study, Heterogeneity in Psychiatric Diagnostic Classification, published very recently on-line for the September 2019 issue of Psychiatry Research. Beyond the comments in the Univ of Liverpool article, there is a link to the actual study.

Io included this comment with her note: "I find this study intriguing both because as an ex-biotech professional, I had seen first hand how the lack of clear biological markers for psychiatric diseases is a huge problem for drug development, and also because it speaks to the heart of the diagnostic issues and processes that both patients and psychiatrists face while trying to decipher what is causing a person's symptoms. As we have discussed before in various settings, it would be interesting to see the true rate of misdiagnosis in psychiatry on a large scale…”
